Commenting Rules
This page describes the commenting rules on Advance.hr, the principles of moderation and user conduct, as well as the procedures for removing inappropriate or unlawful content in accordance with the Electronic Media Act and EU digital regulations.
1. Introduction
Commenting on Advance.hr is available to registered users for the purpose of encouraging constructive and respectful discussion. These rules define permitted conduct, prohibited content, and the conditions under which comments may be removed or a user account restricted.
2. Commenting Principles
Users are expected to observe:
- respectful and polite communication
- good-faith discussion without personal attacks
- respect for differing opinions
- compliance with the law and the portal’s rules
- commenting only within the topic of the article
3. Prohibited Content
The following is not permitted on Advance.hr:
- incitement to violence or hatred based on race, nationality, gender, religion, or any other identity
- threats against other users, authors, editors, or subjects of articles
- posting illegal, pornographic, obscene, or disturbing content
- publishing other people’s personal data (doxxing)
- posting false information with the intent to deceive
- trolling, provoking, and deliberately disrupting discussion
- profanity and insults, except in cases of stylistic use not directed at another person
- advertising, spam, and off-topic content
- copyright infringement or the publication of protected material
- using someone else’s name, impersonating other users or public figures
- writing in all capital letters (CAPS LOCK) or in a script other than Latin script
4. Legal Obligations and Content Removal
In accordance with the Electronic Media Act and the EU Digital Services Act (DSA):
- Advance.hr is required to remove illegal content upon report or order from a competent authority
- comments that incite hatred, violence, or terrorism, or contain pornographic material, will be removed without delay
- in the event of an order from the Agency for Electronic Media, disputed comments will be removed within 48 hours
User comments are not considered editorial content, but the portal is required to respond when notified of illegal content.
5. Sanctions
User accounts may be temporarily or permanently restricted in the following cases:
- hate speech or serious threats – temporary suspension for at least 14 days
- publishing other people’s personal data – temporary suspension
- repeated violation of the rules – permanent account termination
- spam, advertising, and off-topic content – suspension for 48 hours
- impersonating other users or using an inappropriate username – immediate account restriction
Each user may have only one account. Multiple accounts will be permanently disabled.
6. Comment Moderation
Moderation is carried out in accordance with these rules. Comments may be:
- removed if they violate the rules
- hidden pending review
- marked as inappropriate
Moderators have the right to intervene without prior notice.
7. Reporting Inappropriate Comments
Users may report comments that violate the rules. When submitting a report, please provide:
- a link to the article
- the username of the comment’s author
- a brief description of the issue
Reports are reviewed within a reasonable timeframe.
8. User Responsibility
Users are responsible for the content of their comments. Publishing illegal content may also have criminal-law consequences under the applicable laws of the Republic of Croatia.
